The anti-nutritional effects of xylan
1) “Cage effect”
As the composition of plant cell wall, xylan can be the part of “cage” which can make the nutrients capsulized from being digested well, and decrease the utilization of nutrients;
2) Increase the viscosity of chyme
Xylan can increase the viscosity of chyme by combining with the moisture in intestine, and hinder the effective interaction between nutrients and digestive enzymes, which has negative effect on the digestion and absorption of nutrients.
